  • 1 Spoon Wooden or silicone for stirring

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh blueberries Rinsed and picked over
  • 2 tbsp sugar Adjust to taste
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice Freshly squeezed
  • 2 tbsp water -

Optional – lemon zest, cinnamon, vanilla extract, pinch of salt To enhance flavor

Instructions
 

  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine blueberries, sugar, lemon juice, and water.
  • Stir gently and let the mixture come to a simmer. As the blueberries heat, they will begin to burst.
  • Reduce heat to low and cook for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the compote thickens slightly but remains juicy.
  • Taste and adjust sweetness or acidity as needed.
  • Remove from heat and let cool before serving.
  • (Optional: For a thicker compote, mash half the berries with the back of a spoon during cooking.)

Notes

  • You can store this compote in an airtight jar in the fridge for up to 1 week.
  • Delicious served warm or cold over pancakes, waffles, yogurt, cheesecake, or even toast!
  • Want a smoother texture? Blend it briefly. Want more texture? Add whole blueberries at the end.
